Mitel Open SIP Phones

These phones deliver the same enterprise grade HD audio, Gigabit PoE, and Mitel Hi-Q wideband audio quality as the full Mitel range, but are factory-unlocked for open SIP provisioning, making them the right choice for mixed or non-Mitel environments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mitel Open SIP phones are factory-unlocked versions of the 6800 and 6900 series pre-configured for use with any RFC3261-compliant SIP PBX or UCaaS platform, not just Mitel systems. They deliver identical hardware quality, Hi-Q HD wideband audio, and the same physical form factors as the full Mitel platform range, but without requiring a Mitel call server for provisioning or operation.

Mitel Open SIP phones are compatible with any RFC3261-compliant SIP platform including Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Avaya Communication Manager, 3CX, FreePBX, Asterisk, RingCentral, 8x8, Zoom Phone, and any other SIP-based PBX or UCaaS service. The open SIP implementation uses industry-standard provisioning methods ensuring broad interoperability without requiring platform-specific customization.

Mitel Open SIP phones support zero touch provisioning through three standard methods. DHCP Option 66 allows the network to automatically direct phones to a provisioning server when they boot. TR-069 provides centralized remote management through an ACS server. Per-phone HTTP/HTTPS provisioning URLs allow configuration to be pushed from any standards-compliant provisioning system, enabling large deployments without individual manual configuration.

Yes. Select models in the 6900 Open SIP series include built in Bluetooth 4.1 and optional dual-band Wi-Fi. Bluetooth supports wireless headset pairing and the MobileLink feature for bridging smartphone audio through the desk phone speaker. Wi-Fi allows the phone to connect to the corporate network wirelessly when Ethernet cabling is impractical, such as in retrofit office fitouts or historic buildings.

Yes. Mitel Open SIP phones are specifically designed for environments running non-Mitel PBX systems or mixed-vendor telephony estates. They can be deployed alongside your existing phone inventory as a quality upgrade, used as a primary endpoint fleet on a Cisco, Avaya, or 3CX system, or deployed in a hybrid environment where different floors or departments use different PBX platforms.
